Red berries, blue skies,
green leaves and white clouds
dance with the wind,
are brightened by the sun
and frozen for an instant
as if that moment

The Fawn 小鹿

The fawn surprised me a week ago
as I walked through our Eastern hedgerow;
it struggled in the deep shade and underbrush
to get upright and flee...and it did wildly.

The next walks through the hedgerow
found me setting the camera to sports mode,
ready for the fawn to struggle to its feet and run,
but two more times it leapt up before me and fled...
and I shot from the hip missing any clear or accurate focus.

Finally yesterday on 23 June
I was walking near the Northern hedgrow
and saw the fawn before it heard, saw or scented me
as there was a strong wind out of the West...
and this is what I saw.

一週間前東の生垣を通り抜けた時、
小鹿が出てきて驚いた、
影深くやぶで真直ぐ立って逃げようと
必死になっていた...そしてワイルドに成し遂げた。

次に生垣を通り抜けた時
カメラをスポーツモードにして
小鹿が必死に立とうとして逃げるその時を待っていたが
2回とも私の前で飛び上がって逃げたので
とっさにシャッターを押し、ピントがずれてしまった。

ついに昨日6月23日
北の生垣を通り抜けていたら
私の音を聞く前に、見る前に、匂いを嗅ぐ前に
その小鹿を見つけた、西から風が吹いていたので...
そしてこれが私が目の当たりにしたものです。

Blackberries Ripening ブラックベリーが熟す

For the last few days
we have been eating berries,
they come slow at first,
then like microwave popcorn
the color and flavor pops.

ここ数日の間

The old Red Oak fell,
hollow and eaten by the ants,
blown nearly to ground
except for ten feet of trunk
that has been given this view.

Pink Cone Flower ピンクのコーンフラワー

The Delphiniums are down - blown flat,
the Sassafras tree has been topped,
shattered by the wind,
but the pink Cone Flower is strong.

On Friday Night

The wind swept across the valley
to the West and hit our hedgerow
with hurricane force winds
rushing in advance of a line
of thunderstorms.

This picture from Saturday
characterizes one small part
of our clean-up task
made less comfortable
by a power outage
throughout the weekend.

風が谷を吹き抜け
西に向かい垣根を直撃し
ハリケーン級の風の強さで
いくつもの嵐の前に
急いで通っていった。

Calm Before the Storm 嵐の前の静けさ

Last Friday 18 June
the Lavender played
a calming host
hours before the storm.

嵐の前に静かに

Follow Me ついておいで

The flower bud said
"Follow me toward the sunshine"
and the daisies did.

花のつぼみが言った
『太陽の光に向かってついておいで』

first the Squirrel
leapt across the drive,
then the Chipmunk
scrambled over boulders,
and finally the deer,
a herd of five or six,
crashed through the brush
having seen me first.

The Young Dill 若いディル

The young Dill,
June's Cristmas tree
with dew drops like bulbs
adorning the tips
of each tasty sprig.

Wild Roses 野バラ

Wild roses white and red
light up the berry patch
with mid-season color
preempting the red
then blackish blush
of the ripening berries.

Northern Catalpa Blooms アメリカキササゲが花咲く

Known as "Cigartree"
or as "Indian-bean" tree,
its flower clusters
are twenty centimeters
long and wide, a pretty white.

The Sun Garden 太陽の庭

The Sun Garden has
East, South, and West exposure
for most of the day
with Old Sol hiding a bit
among the shadow of Elm.

The Kitchen Path is
adorned with whites, pinks, purples
and silvers in mass;
all waiting for the Lillies
and the Lavender to bloom.

Early morning sun
treats the partial shade garden
to a morning bath
of bright light that is not strong,
yet it feeds our eyes and souls.

Butterfly Refueling 蝶の燃料補給

The Coreopsis
attracts butterflies all day;
this one refuels here
as if the colors of the
flower, are sucked right in.

This week they cancelled the Peony Festival
for all the Peonies were past their prime.
The fire-flies have begun to flare
in what seems like a couple weeks early,
while the fawns roam the forests,
finding closely hidden places
to nestled down in during daylight.
