The Blizzard of 2011 2011年の雪嵐

By the time evening fell

with a few centimeters of snow,

we had a 30 centimeter base;

yet for all the dire predictions

only 9 more fell

in a night and day's time.

Seems we had been on the edge

between the deeper drifts

and the ice spanked Ohio.

It had howled last night

moving things,

houses and homes,

that usually

rest quiet and still,

yet the beasts

of the night

that usually lurk

browse and feed,

rested curled so tight

that their tails

covered their eyes.

夜には既に

数センチの雪が降り

30cmの基礎を作った

切迫した予報では

夜から昼間にかけて

あと9cmだけ降るとのこと。

どうやら私たちは

深い吹き溜まりと

オハイオを襲った氷の

間の端にいるようだ。

昨夜は風の唸り声が凄かった

物を動かす音

通常静かでじっとしている

家々を、

だがいつもは

ひっそりと動いて

食物を探す

夜の野獣は

ギュッと丸くなり

尻尾で目を隠して

休んでいた。
