Tiger Lilly and Friend タイガーリリーと友達

The Tiger Lilly,

or Day Lilly,

blooms for just one day

before closing and wilting the next

and shrivelling and drying

after that.

It has its moment

and lives it,

as we all do

in our own scales;

but like us,

it is the collective that lasts,

some coming early

and burning fast

in the hot June sun,

while others wait

taking their time to grow,

sheltered by the partial shade

until the end of July nears;

and then the last one

blooms and dies...

for even the collective

has its life span.

またの名をデイリリー

一日だけ咲く

閉じてしおれる前に

そしてその後

しなびて枯れる。

それは一瞬

それを生きる、

私たちがみな

自分の基準でするように

でも私たちと同じように

生き残るのは集団で

あるものは早く来て

早く燃えてしまう

熱い６月の太陽の下、

あるものは遅く来て

時間をかけて大きくなる

７月の終わりが近づくまで

半日蔭に隠れて

そして最後のものが

咲き、死ぬ

皆の集まりが

一生を生きるのだけれど。
