Forsythia レンギョウ

April warms at some point
every year,
and then the Forsythia come,
shy specks of yellow at first,
mingling with the green
before filling out in what is
for the midwest,
Ohio and Michigan at least,
the definitive statement
that spring has arrived.

Forsythia reminds us of spring
so often on our drives
through older neighborhoods
and countryside,
that you would think there was,
a tax-credit for planting it.

毎年
4月のいつかには暖かくなる
そしてレンギョウが現れ、
最初の恥ずかしがり屋の黄色の一点は
どんどん緑と入り混じり、
中西部を埋め尽くすまでには
少なくともオハイオとミシガンで
春が来たという
明確な声明となる。

レンギョウは
古い近所や田舎を
ドライブしている時にしょっちゅう
春であることを再確認させてくれるので
まるで税金対策の為に
植えられたかと
思われるほどだ。
