Mayapples emerge
in April from beneath ground,
but the apples wait
until May to open up,
perched at first in the fork.

メイアップルは
4月に地面の下から現れる、
けれどりんごは5月まで
出てくるのを待って、
まずは分岐にすわる。

were closed-up and looking away from each other.
