The baskets that held this year's annuals
hang empty above the woodpile,
their flowers a wilted tangled mess
weakly clinging to the soil
that has joined the compost pile,
together awaiting a future use...
while each log, split or not
too, awaits its use,
to provide us with the comfort of warmth
and the pleasure of dancing colors;
like dormant seeds each piece of wood
promises fine moments in a season passing.
今年の一年草が植えられていたバスケット
薪の山の上にからっぽで釣り下がり、
その花たちはしなびて
土の上で絡まって
堆肥の山と一緒になった
共に将来また使われることを待ちながら...
ログも割られたのも、割られなかったのも
その出番を待ち、
暖かさという癒しと
踊る色たちの歓びを私たちにくれる
まるで休眠している木が
季節が変わるとき
美しい一瞬を約束してくれるように。
